09.26 EM - Mystery Reds

Every vintage, customers look forward to another sublime ‘Stump’., combining Australia's two powerhouse grapes – Shiraz and Durif – to make a super-charged black red, packed with ripe velvety fruit layered with spice.

According to Stump’s Aussie winemaker (and thousands of Black Stump customers), when you combine Durif and Shiraz “magical things happen”. Perhaps that explains Black Stump’s splendid two decades of popularity.  It's won many Golds along the way too. Two, last vintage. The wine owes its name to a mythical outback marker of the boundary between the known world and the unknown. Describe anything as the best “this side of the black stump” and you mean it’s reckoned to be unbeatable. How appropriate for an affordable Aussie red of peerless intensity and popularity. Dark Durif, “the grape that takes no prisoners” (The Observer), and dark, juicy Shiraz make a perfect marriage, creating a velvety, voluptuous, and irresistible style. Serve in large glasses with steak and kidney pie, BBQ fare or a roast.

Sam's first vintage back in charge, the 2024, brought a Gold and 95pts! A great value alternative to South Australian Shiraz. It's popular and frequently Gold-winning. Given Sam's prodigious medal-winning record that's no surprise. With grapes from premium vineyards owned by many of Australia’s leading independent growers, this Reserve Shiraz is a great value alternative much pricier South Australian Shiraz. It's dark and very easy to drink, with layers of smoky spice and velvet smooth black fruit. Enjoy this latest release served with a rare T-bone steak, a rich game casserole or farmhouse cheeses.

Yarrunga Field Special Reserve Shiraz

Boscwood is an Aussie blend of Inky Petit Verdot blended with spicy Shiraz. Often Gold-winning, as it is this vintage, and always popular, it's a lavish red blend with layers of dense black fruit and a rich helping of smoky spice.

You don’t often see Bordeaux’s inky Petit Verdot blended with spicy Shiraz. But of course, in Australia, there are no rules, so winemakers are free to blend them. The result? Gorgeous layers of dense black fruit with a rich helping of smoky spice. This is a beautiful red wine that, as the label says, “tip toes and tapdances over your taste buds”. Very popular – and a frequent Gold-winner., as it is yet again this vintage.

Boscwood Petit Verdot Shiraz

In a region famous for the world's finest rosés, we champion the work of Mireille Milliau with this elegant pink. Her grapes are usually blended into some of the most prestigious brand wines, but here, this vintage, they're deliciously bottled solo!

Big names dominate in Provence. They scout the best sites, scoop the finest grapes from small growers, then, sadly, blend them away to fit a house style. But we aren’t about that. When we find great fruit nurtured by exceptional people we don’t whisper, we shout about the grape growing heroes! Usually destined for one of the biggest names in rosé, these star grapes are grown by the talented Mireille Milliau. Thanks to the determination of our buyer, Sarah, she managed to wheedle some of the 2020 and again with the 2021, so you could have a taste of this exquisite pink in solo form. This stylish rosé in its very beautiful bottle is a delicate balance of citrus, subtle berry and floral notes, with a savoury hint.

It's a variety that works superbly well in blends, but the best way to understand the grape's appeal is to taste one in pure form. You'd do well to pick this one. Spotlight Durif

This is the second vintage of the latest addition to Sam Trimboli's 'Duck' family - a bright and juicy, elegant Cabernet.

We have known and worked with Sam Trimboli for decades, during which time he's made many of our biggest selling wines, and he's notched up a huge stack of medals for them too. Sam has loved ducks since he was a boy. His first pet was a little duck he led around on a leash like a puppy. He loves the symbolism of the duck: ducks are flexible (they swim, fly and walk), they’re loyal and love family (think mother ducks and their ducklings) and they’re very adaptable. He named his 'signature' Durif The Black Duck, and has so far added a White Duck and a Pink Duck to the range. This Purple Duck is the fourth member and has gone down very well indeed. We think this very popular growing family is all the stronger for this latest mighty duck!
