Launched 20 years ago, Il Papavero is our most reordered Italian red. Customers love the easy-going, ripe cherry fruit and its suave Italian style. Blended from the best grapes of the vintage, it offers supple, ripe fruit and easy charm.

Il Papavero has been a chart-topping favourite for years; the silken Italian charmer with incomparable versatility. A wine for all seasons, it’s a great party red with or without food and partners the universe of pasta and pizza dishes effortlessly. As wine critic Richard Neill once wrote, "If all table wines tasted this good, no one would leave the table"! The value too is second to none. The secret? Papavero maestro Scipione Giuliani, a 5th-generation winemaker. Every vintage he selects the ripest, most flavoursome grapes from the top-performing regions to ensure Il Papavero is always supple with red berry fruit. Sangiovese from the Marches, Abruzzi Montepulciano, plus Negroamaro and Nero d’Avola from the south – a perfect combination.

Il Papavero

Gorgeous, velvet-powered red from McLaren Vale. With its gentle rolling hills and proximity to the ocean, McLaren Vale is a top region to grow ripe Shiraz – all juicy, velvety and rich.

A long-time favourite McLaren Vale Shiraz dense with gorgeous layers of ripe blackberry, dark cherry and juicy plum fruit, layered with the vanilla spice from gentle oak-ageing. Shiraz is the most widely planted grape in the McLaren Vale. Indeed, along with the Barossa, it produces some of Australia’s finest Shiraz. All deliciously ripe black fruits perfectly balanced by a seam of freshness, thanks to cooling coastal winds. We reserve our Deep River label for fabulous one-off parcels our buyer out there gets to hear about and snaps up when the offer is good. Often from vineyards growing on iron-rich soils near the Onkaparinga River, which has carved out spectacular deep gorges through the foothills – and given the wine its name.

White Duck Chardonnay Pinot Grigio

Enjoy a breezy, quaffable ‘house white’ illustrating the quality and value Spain offers today. A citrus-charged blend of three different grapes – Macabeo, Moscatel and Viognier – expertly crafted by winemaker Javier Murúa in his Rioja cellar.

The Murúas – father Julián and son Javier – have supplied some of our most popular Spanish wines for many years. Among the favourites our customers keep coming back for are our bestselling red Rioja, Barón de Barbón, and Customer-Poll-winning Posada del Rey. And in Finca Libertad Blanco, they’ve created a mouthwatering ‘house white’ that’s another customer favourite. Finca Libertad Blanco is a blend of Macabeo, Moscatel and Viognier from higher altitude vineyards, where warm summer days and cool nights are perfect for grape growing. This aromatic wine has floral and tropical fruit aromas leading to fresh pineapple, passion fruit and white flowers. Well-chilled, it’s a delicious aperitif and a match for fresh seafood, white meats and paella.
