Wine Details

The Wine
Martínez Bujanda have been Riojan winemakers of renown since 1889, surging to the forefront in the closing decades of the 20th century. Bodegas Valdemar, owned by Jesús Martínez Bujanda, specialises in matching grape varieties to specific terroir to bring out their best varietal characteristics. This old-vine Garnacha was made at the estate's impressive winery by Riojan luminary Gonzalo Ortiz. Such is his standing in the region that he sits on the approval board of the Consejo (wine council) that taste tests and assesses new vintages to award their official ratings. With potency and rich black fruit intensity, this 2013 Garnacha is a more mouthfilling Rioja than many, and well matched to roast meats, game casseroles and char-grilled steaks.
