If you love your Shiraz big, rich, and packed full of flavour, then The Red Rattler is one you shouldn't miss. It shows all those wonderful deep and rich South Australian flavours, with a long, smooth finish. All aboard!
Fruit was harvested from the old vines grown at McPherson's riverside vineyard, situated on the banks of the Murray River. Sandy loam soils with excellent drainage providing ideal conditions for growing high quality, concentrated fruit. Separate parcels of the wine spent between 6 and 12 months in French oak barriques. The final blend is made up of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon and 49% Ruby Cabernet (a crossing between Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan). Enjoy lifted notes of vanilla, blackberry and redcurrant. On the palate, spice and rich black fruits are complemented with elegant oak. Perfectly balanced, with a firm, smooth tannin structure, it finishes with an enduring length of ripe fruit and French oak. Try it with spicy Asian dishes or slow-cooked beef ribs.
According to winemaker Alan Kennett (and thousands of Black Stump customers), when you combine Durif and Shiraz “magical things happen”. Perhaps that explains Black Stump’s splendid two decades of popularity. The wine owes its name to a mythical outback marker of the boundary between the known world and the unknown. Describe anything as the best “this side of the black stump” and you mean it’s reckoned to be unbeatable. How appropriate for an affordable Aussie red of peerless intensity and popularity. Dark Durif, “the grape that takes no prisoners” (The Observer), and impressively juicy Shiraz make a perfect marriage, creating a velvety, voluptuous, and irresistible style. Serve in large glasses with steak and kidney pie or a Sunday roast.
The Full Fifteen is a powerful customer favourite boasting pages of 5-star online reviews. Andrew McPherson, or ‘Big Mac’ to friends, launched this mighty Aussie red in 2003. It was an instant hit with customers and we really didn’t think it could get any better. Then, in 2012, Andrew appointed Jo Nash as chief winemaker and quality went up another step. Mother of four and married to another winemaker, she's a very busy lady, but fits it all in with a big smile and has many top awards to her name. She took the much-loved Full Fifteen and added yet more layers of gorgeous flavour, all with an elegant touch. Punnets of black summer berries mingle with a seductive, smoky spice. A Big Red to pair with a rib-eye steak or a hearty casserole.
Quarter Horse is a classic Aussie blend of ripe, curranty Cabernet and spicy liquorice Shiraz, well ripened in Victorian vineyards. It's the work of winemaker Andrew Byers, a talented guy who first thought he'd become a professional golf player, but decided after a stretch of work experience at the famous Villa Maria winery, that his talents lay in wine. This is rich, ripe red – supple and fruity enough to enjoy on its own, but spot on, too, with marinated lamb shanks or some melt in the mouth pulled pork.
John Quarisa is a Jimmy Watson Trophy-winning winemaker, with a "long and distinguished" career (Halliday). Here he's crafted a beautifully rich, lush and full-flavoured Shiraz, a Double-Gold-winning beauty laden with ripe fruits and delicious exotic spice on a smooth, long finish. 30 Mile is named after John Quarisa’s own private waterhole, the place he once swam as a boy. It has grown to be the lifeblood of the vineyards by supplying water to the majestic, aging vines. The 30 Mile range is a tribute to Australia's vital network of rivers and waterways – the lifeblood of Australia.
