Matured in American oak, the Black Duck Durif is full bodied and smooth with layers of spicy, fruity flavour. Many customers will know winemaker Sam Trimboli from his days at Warburn Estate, where he collected hundreds of awards for his now legendary skills. During that time he developed an obsession for the somewhat obscure Durif, a “stunning little powerhouse grape that develops astounding complexity”, as he describes it. The Durif grapes for this wine come from a small vineyard that Sam helped establish in the 1980s. It’s now at peak maturity.
McLaren Vale reds are big, there's no doubt about that! Deep River takes them to another level as you'll see when you taste this deep, rich, sumptuous Cabernet. It's full of black fruits - blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry - with fragrant wild herbs, and delicious spice notes. Fine tannins and a long smooth finish give further drinking pleasure. A really lovely wine. Enjoy!
Angove is one of Australia's oldest family-owned wineries, and those good old fashioned values are evident in this generous, full flavoured Shiraz. Brimful of succulent black fruit and spice and velvet smooth, this big, bold, satisfying Shiraz from a pioneering winemaking dynasty is indeed heavy, yet it's terrifically easy to drink
Andrew McPherson grew up in the world of wine and went on to work for some top names in Australia before settling down to craft really characterful, great value wines like this one, under his own name. It's a lavishly big, rich Cabernet blend filled with delicious spice and luscious black fruit on a gently toasted oak finish. Delicious!
The Winemakers Selection offers quality in every glass you pour, because it's the winemakers who oversee all of life's best drinking experiences - from vineyard, to barrel, to the bottle in your hand. Great wine starts with individuals whom share a great passion for winemaking and viticulture, those who are prepared to look deeper than the rest, work a little harder and stay that bit longer. In addition, they intimately know their craft. This gutsy red is a perfect example of all of that - punchy Grenache and rich Mataro work in perfect harmony for a deliciously drinkable red.
Australia is home to some very fine Cabernet. Coonawarra makes some of the finest. This top Cabernet comes from a fifth-generation winemaker whose ancestors planted some of the first vines in South Australia in 1837. Halliday calls it “a distinguished estate with a proud history, long renowned for its Cabernet”.
“A full-bodied cabernet crafted across 12 months in a combination of new and used French and American oak, this is delicious… the American oak conferring a rich coffee bean scent and warmth to a generous seam of blackcurrant, olive and dark cherry to bitter chocolate notes… The tannins are gently pliant and nicely handled, facilitating earlier drinking. Fine value and in form… 93pts” (Halliday).
