Founded in 1886 by Dr William Angove of Cornwall. He began making wine and brandy as a hobby (a product they're still famous for), but by the early 1900s had built a fully equipped cellar and planted extensive vineyards in the Adelaide foothills. Today, fifth-generation Victoria and Richard Angove run the business, while Sophie Angove oversees viticulture. They continue to pioneer modern styles of wine with a focus on sustainability. We have been working with the Angove family for many years, and our close, personal connection has developed into an exclusive wine range. The fruit for this luscious Shiraz comes from a vineyard near Whirlpool Corner on the lovely Murray River. It's deep, dark and delicious, and great with a steak hot off the grill.
John and Josephine Quarisa’s passion extends far beyond the boundaries of the wine industry, to their home, their family, their hobbies, heritage and through the simplest things associated with everyday life. This life long, energetic partnership started at school when John and Josephine became high-school sweethearts. Over the years they have grown and developed and are still laughing and loving every step of the way. As a winemaker for over 30 years, John’s winemaking has been awarded some of Australia’s greatest accolades including both the Jimmy Watson and Stodart Trophies. John’s experience drove him to develop a range of wines that are down to earth, full of character and approachable. Also true of John himself! This Shiraz is intense cherry red with purple hues. Aromas of fresh ripe berries are complemented by rose petal and orange blossom. The same ripe berry flavours are given added complexity on the palate thanks to well-integrated vanillin oak and spice notes. Long, smooth and irresistible.
The late, great Peter Lehmann was a fifth generation Barossa winemaker and a legend in his own lifetime. The son of a Lutheran preacher, he became a champion of small independent grape growers in the region, buying their grapes through the tough days of the 1970s when the big wineries reneged on their contracts. This earned Peter the title ‘Baron of the Barossa’. Those growers never forgot his generosity and always stayed loyal. With a fabulous wine range including the world class Stonewell, no one did more to elevate the Barossa to cult status than Peter. His generous spirit lives on in this hearty, big spice Shiraz. Rich, chocolatey, with a peppery vanilla edge, it’s supreme with rare beef, roast lamb or veggie casserole with dumplings.
Michael and Filippo Scarpantoni helped plant their family’s prized vineyards in the 1970s ... by hand, using no machinery! In fact, the Scarpantoni family has roots in McLaren Vale dating back to 1958. Their lavish reds are much sought after by connoisseurs – not surprising, considering they have taken out Australia’s No.1 wine prize – the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy! This comes from the oldest vineyard site in McLaren Vale. The black alluvial soils from this rich valley produce beautiful inky hues with aromatic blackberry and licorice aromas. The palate is full and rich with a complexity of dark fruits, classic chocolate notes and finishing long with soft silky tannins.
