If you like BIG Aussie reds, we’d like to introduce you to a wine with the same uncompromising, fruit-rich style, but with a distinctly Italian accent. A southern one, to be precise, because Massivo comes from Mediterranean Sicily, where big red fans can enjoy great quality and unbeatable value for money. But this isn’t a Cabernet or Shiraz. It’s a modern take on the traditional local grape variety Nero d’Avola, the swarthy ‘godfather’ of Italian grapes. It boasts a big 14% personality, is impeccably smooth, and has immense depth thanks to the exclusive use of richly concentrated fruit from some of the island’s oldest vines. With bags of flavour and character – powerful notes of prunes, blackberries and liquorice – Massivo is especially good alongside rich pasta dishes or char-grilled meats.
