Shiraz Showcase Bulk Deal + RedHeads 1888 Shiraz Case contents
Shiraz is very much the hero of Australia’s Barossa Valley. Aussie winemaking legend Peter Lehmann once said “When God created Shiraz, he did so with the Barossa in mind.” Patronus comes from a plot of old vines where the amount of fruit is miserly, but the quality is lavish. This Reserve version is a dark, inky beast with ripe aromas of smoky blackberry, fruitcake, toasty oak and dark chocolate… a bigger, bolder and more mouthcoating version of the bestselling Patronus. Get out your biggest glasses for this outstanding Reserve Shiraz! An excellent choice with venison or lamb backstrap.
For 19 years RedHeads have been making pioneering wines in various shed wineries across McLaren Vale and the Barossa. In that time they’ve picked up Trophies and over 100 Golds. Until last year they exclusively sought out the best growers to rescue small parcels of top-quality grapes for their wines. They still do, but now have a much nurtured vineyard of their own too. They’ve put down roots in Angaston in the Barossa, with 8 hectares of vines and a new, ultra eco-friendly cellar. With the grapes, they make a single estate wine – the 1888. It’s named after the old 1888 cottage they adopted with the property, the oldest building in the area. Handcrafted and cask matured, this is probably the best vintage of 1888 yet. Tasty now or cellar.
This special edition ‘The Prize’ Black Pig Shiraz is made with prime fruit from a renowned McLaren Vale estate. Being a top-secret collaboration, we can't tell you which one, can’t even give handy clues, but it is a very fine estate with wines that sell for top dollar. At full price this prize red is great value (and if you're paying less than that you're onto a seriously good thing!)) In the Black Pig family it is top hog, lord of the litter… Look forward to heady aromas of lush black fruits with hints of white pepper and leather. The palate is overflowing with blackberry, plum and black cherry, wrapped in layers of vanilla and creamy chocolate. This is indeed a "corker of a porker". Enjoy!
Crafted by the great Kevin Mitchell at Kilikanoon, who is famous for his outstanding Shiraz. His wines have regularly achieved a huge 98 points from Robert Parker and his top Shiraz sells for over $500 a bottle! Baroota is a 'special project' red, grapes selected from a number of top, early ripening vineyards between premium areas Spencer Gulf and the Flinders Ranges. Vinified in small batches. Enjoy aromas of blackberry with a sweet oak and vanilla lift, plus highlights of spice and eucalyptus. The intense, warming palate is loaded with dense black fruit, and smooth tannins carry the Shiraz to a delightfully long rich finish. It’s best decanted, then served with a rib eye steak or roasted eggplant.
Langhorne Creek, source of so much of the ‘secret ingredient’ fruit behind so many big name Trophy winners, was where the Marauding Vintners went to find Chairman Shiraz… in their words “the self-styled Chairman, is the big man of Australian wine whose power is recognised and respected around the world. Power he might have, in spades, but you can’t overlook the charm. Bring him to the table and he’s sure to win over the guests...” Hefty, passionate, dark, spicy and irresistible – spend time with the Chairman, and he’ll leave you wanting more.
