Beyond the Labels
Intense ‘black reds’ from Australia, Spain and Italy with superb fruit concentration; taste across Shiraz, Cabernet, Durif, Primitivo, and more. All up, you get 14 wines (7x2) and save big on every bottle.
For over 30 years, John Quarisa has made a name for himself as the creator of some of Australia’s best wines. Receiving many of Australia’s top wine honours, including the Jimmy Watson Trophy in Melbourne and Stodart Trophy in Brisbane, Quarisa has reached the pinnacle of Australia’s wine show circuit. The sensational Gold-winning Carpone Durif takes all of that refined skill and knowledge and concentrates it into this excellent wine. Expressing rich characters of plum, cassis, chocolate, coffee and liquorice, with a lovely vanillin finish thanks to partial aging in American oak.
This is an intensely flavoured, weighty red, similar in style to the rich, powerful and highly sought after reds of Priorat. The big difference, however, is the price – a fraction of that asked for Priorat wines. It was made at the Padró family cellar, founded in 1898, which draws on the expertise of winemaker Mario García. He has had experience throughout Spain (including Priorat, Montsant and Penedès), and has achieved many 5-Star ratings from top wine guide Guía Peñín. Combining concentrated, old bush vine (up to 70 years old) Monastrell (known to us as Mourvèdre or Mataro) plus a portion of strawberry-scented Tempranillo, it’s a lavish and layered wine that’s really hard to resist. It's a brilliant partner to grilled meats, or pair it with your next tapas feast. Delicious!
The Italian families of the Riverina have been producing royally good wines for years and now the secret is out! In critic James Halliday’s words... Calabria Family Wines “consistently delivers exceptional value for money across the entire range”. Bill Calabria, the leading light behind this wine, received a Queen’s Birthday Honour for his services to charity and the wine industry as a whole. Indulge in his classy Gold-winning Coonawarra (and Riverina) Cabernet Sauvignon. Lovely intensity of rich fruit with layers of blackcurrant and herb flavours and spicy toasty oak notes. The tannins are firm, the finish smooth, long and powerful.
It’s no coincidence the Papavero family of wines are amongst our customers’ favourites – winemaker Scipione Giuliani always manages to capture the very essence of the grape, the spirit of Italy and a delicious drinkability. This is the granddaddy of the group, made purely from Primitivo from a plot of 50-year-old vines, resulting in very concentrated flavour. Scipione discovered the vines in Puglia, and insisted that the grapes be bottled solo. To match the richness of the fruit he aged the wine in barrel for a few months, lending it mellow roundness and complexity. Dark plum and spicy raisin with alluring chocolate hints. ll Papavero Primitivo is a weighty red, best served with similarly hearty food. Enjoy with spaghetti with tomato, garlic and basil sauce, or with roast meats or pork casserole.
Bold blackberry fruit and spice suggest classic McLaren Vale Shiraz, while rare depth and complexity reflect premium, old vine fruit. A class act, this moreish red is ready to be enjoyed right now – ideally with a juicy rump steak, lamb cutlets, pork sausages or hearty moussaka.
The Idyll Wine Co. is located in the picturesque Moorabool Valley – 15 minutes west of Geelong, Victoria. From here, they make a stunning range of wines sourced from top regions around the country Their philosophy is to ensure precision and passion in every aspect of the winemaking process. The result is premium quality wine that is a true reflection of its varietal character – like this aptly named tempting treasure here. Silky smooth, with layers of fruit and creamy spice, it’s a taste sensation you want to keep on sipping... and sipping... and sipping. It’s irresistible!
Mixed Tape is one of our most loved labels. The idea behind it is simple: take deliciously complementary parcels of fruit, and carefully blend them together to make a wine of unmatched approachability and intrigue. Behind this new wine is the attractive red berry fruit of Tempranillo, the blackcurrant and herbal notes of Cabernet Sauvignon, and the peppery spice and blackberry richness of Shiraz. It's a deliciously mouthfilling, moreish red that pairs quite nicely with a bangin' Spotify playlist and few party pies.
