Since Samuel Guibert returned from 7 years' experience winemaking in New Zealand, he's been reinvigorating his family's already exceptional estate with new ideas. His parents Aimé and Véronique founded the property in the late '60s. Former glovemakers to royalty, they discovered from a friend, the emininent Henry Enjalbert, that they had chosen an amazing site for their vineyards, with the potential to make magnificent Grand Cru style wines. Formed over thousands of years by slowly shifting glaciers, the poor, well drained soils are perfect for vines. History has shown this prognosis to be correct and Gassac is now known as the one true ‘Grand Cru’ of the south. Pensée is a real taste of the Languedoc – ripe herbal fruit and tobacco spice.

Talk about worldly! This is the modern-day Aussie – a classic Italian white variety, grown in Australia, and made for enjoying with Chinese takeaway. Did someone say fruit salad? Yep – but this one’s for grownups. There’s ripe pineapple and juicy honeydew melon, soft pear and all your other fruit salad faves. Call up your local, because we reckon this wine was simply made for Chinese food! It would be stunning with some salt & pepper calamari, but the ripe fruits would also hold their own against some tangy sweet & sour pork, too.

Merlot is gaining ground in Spain as more people come to appreciate its irresistible red fruit charms. Indeed, the author of The New Spain wrote: “Spanish wine is more vibrant, happening and fascinating than it has ever been”. It's certainly an opinion perfectly illustrated by the bright versatility, and almost New World style, of this Merlot. The grapes comes from elevated, sunkissed vineyards inland from the bustling Mediterranean city of Valencia. They produce a fruit-forward red; smooth enough to enjoy solo, or with chicken, pesto pasta, roasted vegetables and, of course, all kinds of tapas.
