The Wine
For a ripe, yet crisp, lively white, head for New Zealand. Marlborough is the best known region, but just round the coast is Nelson, sunshine capital of South Island. Austrian born Hermann Seifried and his wife Agnes planted vines there in 1973. Today they have 300 hectares close to Rabbit Island and, a little inland, at Brightwater. Their three children, brought up very much among the vines, now work at the family estate. Chris is head winemaker, his sister Heidi, a dentist and part-time winemaker, and youngest, Anna, heads up sales. This fruit filled Sauvignon with zippy lime and mineral character is a celebration of the region's beautiful, golden sand beaches and turquoise seas. Chill down and enjoy solo or with spicy Asian dishes.
