The Wine

This opulent, dark cherry-and-mocha flavoured red, with a dash of Amarone, comes from Amarone specialist Cantina di Negrar – Italy’s '2019 Winery of the Year' and has picked up TWO Golds.

Northern Italy, has a feast of opulent, food-friendly reds including distinctive examples made in a Valpolicella Ripasso style. We’ve worked with Italian Winery of the Year Cantina di Negrar for years. They own a vineyard in the Marano Valley and it’s from there they source grapes for this Rosso Veronese, a wine usually reserved for ardent locals. It’s named after Bartolomeo Lorenzi, whose epic 18th-century poem of rural life made Valpolicella wines world famous.

The Marano Valley is especially cool, so grapes take longer to ripen, which adds depth, character and freshness to the wines. This red also has a dash of dark Amarone. With black cherry fruit and Christmas cake spice, it’s hard to imagine a more appealing Veronese red. Great with game.
