It’s down to the thunderously powerful Grenache grapes, hand-picked from the region's ancient low yielding bush vines, – these give the wine awesome intensity and bags of charm. It’s a lusciously smooth red with a richness and weight akin to a fortified wine. Enjoy ripe, spiced plum, blackcurrant and red berries, dark chocolate and cinnamon notes, and a silky finish. Back then it would have been fortified by a glug or two of something even stronger, but the style certainly still packs a punch, Today, this mighty Roman red is a Prince – in our special Prince and King Dozen, meaning you get to enjoy 9 bottles of it. The King? The even mightier Cabalié Vieilles Vignes naturally. Although the VV in ‘Cabalié VV’ looks like Roman numerals, it actually stands for Vieilles Vignes or old vines. Hervé uses some seriously old vine fruit, and a boost of intense Carignan, which adds inky dark juicy fruit to this super-charged version of Cabalié.
