We love to introduce you to new wines and our latest discoveries and think you’re going to really enjoy this dark-fruited, “rounded and generous” Aussie Shiraz – a real moreish all-rounder from Victoria’s ‘rising star’ Greenstone Vineyards – which has a good back story – and a fine future ahead of it. Greenstone Vineyards was established in 2023 near the town of Colbinabbin by three associates David Gleave MW, Alberto Antonini and viticulturalist Mark Walpole. It has two vineyards, one in Heathcote, where this Shiraz, the other from the Yarra Valley, where the winery itself stands, about an hour away from Melbourne. This vineyard has quite a history – it’s the site of Yarra legend Rob Dolan’s old ‘Sticks’ winery vineyard – and before that was called ‘Yarra Ridge’ – first planted in 1983 by Louis Bialkower and his good friend, the legendary wine authority, James Halliday.
The name Greenstone is derived from the ancient Cambrian soils in the Heathcote vineyard. These – the result of underwater volcanic activity – are some of the oldest in the country – and have a deep, iron-rich red colour mottled with lime green-tinted copper-infused basalt! We know that sounds a bit technical, but the soils and Mediterranean climate here are ideal for Shiraz. Greenstone Ridge Series Shiraz 2024 is a delight:.
