Kilikanoon was founded by the brilliant Kevin Mitchell, who is famous for his outstanding Shiraz. The 2002 Clare Valley Wine Show chaired by prominent Australian wine writer and judge, Huon Hooke, propelled Kilikanoon into the spotlight, winning 6 of the 7 trophies awarded. Going from strength to strength, the Oracle Shiraz has twice won ‘Best Shiraz’ at International wine shows, while the estate won James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion named Kilikanoon ‘Winery of the Year’ in 2013, and in 2014, Kevin Mitchell was inducted into the inaugural Clare Valley Hall of Fame as Winemaker of the Year.
Baroota began well over a decade ago as Kevin's 'special project' red, with grapes selected from a number of top, early ripening vineyards between premium areas Spencer Gulf and the Flinders Ranges. Vinified in small batches. The wine was made especially for our customers. Though Kevin has now moved on from Kilikanoon, the great winery still makes Baroota just for us.
Enjoy aromas of blackberry with a sweet oak and vanilla lift, plus highlights of spice and eucalyptus. The intense, warming palate is loaded with dense black fruit, and smooth tannins carry the Shiraz to a delightfully long rich finish. It’s best decanted, then served with a rib eye steak or roasted eggplant.
