Lights Valley Barossa Shiraz Aussie Fine Wine Deal
Save $516 (that's over 66%) and enjoy the Lights Valley Single Vineyard Barossa Shiraz 2021 with Gold and scores of 93-94pts, and today it’s $21.99 a bottle. (Normal RRP $65).
This lavish, world-class drop comes from “a wonderful vintage for the region (2021)" as Ken Gargett, WinePilot writes. “… there is good oak integration here, but there are vestiges of it still evident. They combine neatly with an array of aromas, including chocolate, blackberries, smoked meats, cassis and licorice. There is serious intensity and very good length… The wine finishes with excellent persistence… 94pts." (Ken Gargett, WinePilot).
For Sam Kim, Wine Orbit it is: “Sweetly fruited and immediately appealing… offering succulent fruit intensity backed by finely infused tannins. Opulent and delectably expressed, making it fabulously drinkable. 94pts”
The memorably named Lights Valley wines recalls the very origin of the famous wine region and a curious bit of history. It commemorates Colonel William Light, Surveyor-General of South Australia, who ‘discovered’ the valley in 1837 and chose to name it in memory of the British victory over the French in the Battle of Barrosa in 1811. However, due to clerical error the valley was misspelt Barossa. And the region retains the ‘incorrect’ spelling to this day.
As for the context behind such jaw-dropping deals: Australia has been crushing too many red grapes in recent years, and with market demand down globally, there’s an over-supply of back vintages of some very fine reds indeed. Space is a premium at wineries and many producers simply have had to release valuable parcels at prices they wouldn’t normally ever consider.
