Crafted by Enrico Nicolis, mostly from the Corvina grape, this is succulent, beautiful with food – and can also be chilled slightly making a great refreshing treat on a sunny afternoon. Then there’s Spain’s brilliant Barón de Barbón Rioja 2022. It’s made by Javier Murúa, whose father Julián owns Bodegas Muriel, established in 1926 by Julián's father, in Rioja’s superior Alavesa region. Southern France’s Rex Mundi is a sumptuous black red, a delicious blend of spice-laden, lip-staining Shiraz and raspberry-rich Grenache. It’s crafted by Hervé Sabardeil, using fruit grown on the craggy hillsides of the Languedoc-Roussillon, home to ancient castle ruins perched on rocky peaks, once strongholds for medieval Cathars who feared the evil god Rex Mundi (‘King of the World’), who corrupted the faithful with indulgent earthly pleasures!
