Redman Shiraz SWF
Coonawarra, with its distinctive red ‘Terra Rossa’ soils is home to what many consider Australia’s finest Cabernet and vibrant distinctive Shiraz. For many, the Redman name – and the family’s distinctive yellow label – defines what is an absolute Aussie classic style. Today we invite you to meet two local heroes, and taste a cracking luxury red. Redman is a 4th generation family estate and one of the important family names in the Coonawarra region. The family has been making wine here for over 110 years, with grape growing and winemaking traditions dating back to Bill Redman in 1901. He bought his first vineyard in 1908, and for four decades was the only man making dry red wine in the region. Coonawarra today is acknowledged as one of Australia’s finest regions for reds, but as late as the 1950s, there were only 200 acres of vines in the region. Arthur Hoffmann owned a few of what are now iconic vineyards here – Arthur tended the vines – and sold his grapes to Bill Redman, particularly for Bill’s Rouge Homme brand. The Bill & Arthur label celebrates these two pioneering good friends, who, in their lifetime, saw Coonawarra’s reputation grow to world-class status. In your glass you can expect generous blackcurrant, violet and bramble aromas, leading to a savoury palate with a touch of pepper and Chinese five-spice playing in the background. It’s a perfect match for barbequed ribeye with black pepper sauce. Delicious!
