The Murphy family migrated from Ireland in 1909, and later moved to a spot near Mildura in 1960. They began growing grapes and produced a first vintage of their own wine in 1984, but the winery and the, today much visited, cellar door was established in 1988. It was set up on part of what was once an old sheep farm called Trentham Cliffs, hence the estate name.
Today, Anthony Murphy heads the winemaking team producing a wide range of very consistently attractive wines. This fresh, easy-going, elegant, modern Chardonnay for instance. “Crushed, pressed, cultured yeast fermentation, portion matured in large-format French oak puncheons. Clean, bright, well priced for the everyday, and all chardonnay, with its citrus, stone fruits, melon and a light dusting of spice. Fights above its price, with a warm smoothness across the palate that definitely takes the fruit further. It's not so much about complexity as delivering some mighty delicious drinking.” (Halliday). . Enjoy it with grilled trout, niçoise salad or juicy roast chicken. Delicious.
