For the last 15 years, Argentina has wowed us with the wonders of Malbec. It adopted this Bordeaux variety and made the grape its own, softening its renowned tannins and bringing out all its appealing supple black fruit and floral aromas. This silky red wine is from high-altitude San Juan, in the north of the country. The area has some of the highest, coolest vineyards, those in the Zonda Valley stretching up to nearly 750 metres. No wonder this red has freshness and finesse. Made in a low-yield, high-quality vintage, this Malbec has good concentration. It’s an appetising glass on its own, or try with grilled meats, tangy tomato pasta or aubergine and mozzarella bake.
