After enjoying a “distinguished career as a winemaker spanning over 20 years, working for some of Australia’s largest wineries” (Halliday), John Quarisa is making his own wines – his own way. The result? Mile upon mile of excellent wines! Fragrant cassis, ripe plum with hints of mint and subtle cedar oak aromas, followed by rich black fruit, sweet plum and fine grain tannins across the palate. A soft, generous, multiple Gold-winning Cabernet which John advises pairs perfectly with duck or rabbit. Two Golds and a Trophy for this fifth vintage Duck. With Black Duck Durif, Sam Trimboli set out to make a barrel-aged black red to knock the spots off every other Durif in our range. Matured in American oak, the regular Gold-winning phenomenon, Black Duck Durif is full bodied and smooth with layers of spicy fruit. It's made by Sam Trimboli, whom many customers will know from his days at Warburn Estate, where he collected hundreds of awards for his legendary skills. During that time he developed an obsession for obscure Durif, a “stunning little powerhouse grape that develops astounding complexity”, as he describes it. Perfect with char-grilled steak or mature cheeses.

Flor de San Martin is a juicy, vibrant and joyous made from Garnacha grapes grown, and handpicked in high altitude vineyards in the foothills of the Pyrenees.

Navarra is full of delicious surprises, producing styles from traditional and oaky reds to the most modern and brightly fruity. Flor de San Martin is certainly in the latter camp, a juicy, and joyous red made from grapes grown in high altitude vineyards in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Little rain and these dizzy heights mean lovely intensity of raspberry fresh fruit and lifted herbal aromas – flavours that are unique to the region. This red is from winemaker Gonzalo Zelayeta, who works his magic at the modern San Martín de Unx winery, founded back in 1914. From hand picked (impossible that high with machines) grapes and fermented in stainless steel, this is tasty on its own and versatile with everyday suppers – pork casserole, roast chicken or spicy chickpeas.

You don’t often see Bordeaux’s inky Petit Verdot blended with spicy Shiraz. But in Australia there are no such rules, so winemakers are free to blend them. The result? Gorgeous layers of dense black fruit with a rich helping of smoky spice. This is a beautiful wine that, as the label says, “tip toes and tapdances over your taste buds”. Very popular – and Gold-winning.
