Rioja can produce rich, oaky reds for ageing, but Spain’s most famous region also creates wines like Uvaris, whose charms lie in its bright berry fruit and silky texture – and not a glimmer of oak. When our Buyer for Spain, Beth, first tasted it a few vintages back she loved its focus on the fruit and bought it on the spot. And such has been the demand from customers that she’s secured fresh supplies every year since. You’ll discover why when you pour a glass: the wine is brimful of simple red berry fruit and is fresh, silky and round – very moreish. Crafted from mostly Tempranillo with a portion of raspberry rich Garnacha, it’s suitable for any occasion, with or without food, and can be served slightly chilled on a hot summer’s day.
