This very appealing, juicy Malbec comes from a property in Langhorne Creek, an off-the-beaten track region less than an hour’s drive from Adelaide. Malbec and Langhorne Creek is a match made in heaven.
90pt Vachon Estate is varietally ‘en point’ – all succulent blue and black fruits – and, characteristically for the region – superb value! Originally a Bordeaux variety, the grape has achieved lasting celebrity status in Argentina, but thrives also here in Australia. Solo Malbecs are still relatively rare in the country, but certainly have their fans and those from Langhorne Creek lead the way. The grape famously accompanies steak excellently but is a deliciously versatile drop with dishes as diverse as meaty pasta dishes, lamb casseroles, pork ribs, blue cheese sauces, and roasted peppers and egg plant.
