Vignobles Canet Picpoul de Pinet 2015

Picpoul is a grape that grows in the Languedoc and takes its name from the local village of Pinet. Most unusually for France, it has its very own appellation, Picpoul de Pinet AOC, which stretches from Pézenas towards the fishing port of Sète on the coast. Oz Clarke says the name 'Picpoul' means 'lipstinger' and it certainly has a delicious bite of freshness. This zippy 2015 is made under the watchful eye of Floris Lemstra, winemaker and owner of Château Canet, one of the most respected domaines in the nearby Minervois. At his beautiful estate, he makes both red and white Minervois as well as this stand out Picpoul. Not surprisingly, given the vineyard's proximity to the Mediterranean, it makes a refreshing accompaniment to seafood.
