Vilarissa Valley Douro 2021

Portugal’s reds have become hard to beat for flavour and value. So we were particularly excited about Vilarissa Valley, made by the Van Zellers – the family who founded the great Quinta do Noval in 1715. They're renowned for the quality of their winemaking - firstly for world-class vintage port, one of which was rated among the greatest wines of the last century. Plus, they've led the field in Douro table wines. For Vilarissa Valley, the team sourced grapes from the high Alto Douro – local grapes with peerless levels of richness and concentration. The result is a deep wine with velvet smoothness and gorgeous richness, and finished in port barrels for extra spice. Expect dark ripe mulberries, currants, plush tannins and a spicy vanilla finish. A classic that pairs perfectly with steak and frites or a rich stew.
