Portugal’s Touriga Nacional barrel-aged to perfection in this two-time Gold-winning, 95pt red. The word ‘Nacional’ is reserved for treasures that fly the flag for Portugal. Touriga Nacional certainly does that.
This wine's from Casa Ermelinda Freitas, an estate founded a century ago and proud to have been run by three generations of women. The highly awarded Leonor Freitas is in charge today, with her daughter, Joana, next in line. A decade ago the family bought Senhor Fava's vineyard, with its prized sandy soils. He'd always been one of their top growers, but wanted to retire, so they named this wine, made from its grapes, in his honour.
Since then, it's won a Trophy, and 34 Golds (including two Grand Golds and two Double Golds) in nine vintages and was listed as 'Best Portuguese wine' by UK newspaper, The Independent.
