Langhorne Creek has very few cellar doors, so it doesn’t enjoy the notoriety of other big South Australian regions. However, it enjoys legendary status in the wine industry because its powerful, distinctive fruit has been the ‘secret weapon’ in many Jimmy Watson winning wines. Lake Alex is named after Langhorne Creek's Lake Alexandrina, whose cooling lake breeze helps maintain elegance and freshness in the wines.

Wine Summary

The quality of wines coming from South Africa has never been better. The UK's Financial Times describes them as "gorgeous, often underpriced". The Press Association have written "South African winemakers are producing an abundance of world-class wines". Excelsior Estate has been doing that for 150 years, since its foundation in Robertson in 1870. Today it’s still owned by the De Wet family, with father and son duo – Freddie and Peter – running the show. Their philosophy is that great wine is made in the vineyard, so much care is given to the vines. Their Heritage Reserve range uses their finest grapes from the lowest-yielding vines on the region’s premium limestone soils, all to ensure rich flavour. Only 'wild' yeast from the grape skins is used, which produces a wine with broader flavours. Enjoy this creamy, unoaked Chardonnay, with its citrus peach notes, with white meats or salmon

Welcome to the Vaucluse, a southern Rhône wine region, just on the edge of Provence. Its sunny vineyards nurture an array of native grapes like Grenache, Clairette, Roussanne and Colombard, that make vibrant, bright-fruit whites. The nearest neighbours are famous wine regions Rasteau, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It’s lucky enough, too, to enjoy the same climate and have similar soils. In the case of Willem the Silent and Châteauneuf, it shares an award-winning winemaker as well. Thierry Ferlay has won scores of Gold medals for many of his wines – from vins pays to Châteauneuf. Enjoy the tantalising aromas of fragrant white flowers, and abundant, fresh peach and apricot fruit. Ideal as an aperitif or with risottos.
