Peter Lehmann was known as the ‘Baron of the Barossa’ and he helped put the area on the international wine map with his barn-storming Shiraz. He was also the son of a Lutheran Pastor, hence the name.
Peter Lehmann was known as the ‘Baron of the Barossa’ and he helped put the area on the international wine map with his barn-storming Shiraz. He was also the son of a Lutheran Pastor, hence the name. James Halliday famously said “It’s not often a person becomes a legend in their own lifetime”, thanks to Peter’s significant contribution to Australian wine as a whole. Here, expect classic inky black colour with generous lashings of peppery dark plum, juicy morello cherry and chocolate with hints of mint. A delicious match for venison steaks and peppercorn sauce.

After enjoying a “distinguished career as a winemaker spanning over 20 years, working for some of Australia’s largest wineries” (Halliday), John Quarisa is making his own wines – his own way. The result? Mile upon mile of excellent wines that continue to win Gold! Fragrant cassis, ripe plum with hints of mint and subtle cedar oak aromas, followed by rich black fruit, sweet plum and fine grain tannins across the palate. A soft generous wine which pairs perfectly with duck or rabbit. This wine has the flavour, structure and balance to be enjoyed now or offers added satisfaction from further cellaring.

RedHeads by name, green by nature, this leading winery was built with sustainability at front of mind. That and making showstopping wines. This is the flagship Shiraz from their own Barossa vineyard. A powerful, full-flavoured, barrel-aged beauty!
For 19 years RedHeads have been making pioneering wines in various shed wineries across McLaren Vale and the Barossa. In that time they’ve picked up Trophies and over 100 Golds. Until last year they exclusively sought out the best growers to rescue small parcels of top-quality grapes for their wines. They still do, but now have a much nurtured vineyard of their own too. They’ve put down roots in Angaston in the Barossa, with 8 hectares of vines and a new, ultra eco-friendly cellar. With the grapes, they make a single estate wine – the 1888. It’s named after the old 1888 cottage they adopted with the property, the oldest building in the area. Handcrafted and cask matured, this is probably the best vintage of 1888 yet. Tasty now or cellar.

WineFolio - David Walker Bell
For lovers of juicy ripe reds, this sun-kissed Aussie wine is the cat’s pyjamas. Individually sourced parcels of grapes, fermented, then blended ensure an overflow of fruit forward flavour. Silky plum, raspberry and a sinuous smoky wrap.
This juicy, full-of-fruit red sums up the best of Aussie wine – gorgeous ripe flavour, good intensity and freshness. Way & Cat is short for ‘wayfaring catador’, catador being Spanish for taster. So the name is a tribute to how the team source their fruit – they head out into the vineyards to taste the grapes of their grower friends. When they find the selections they like, they vinify each parcel separately, then blend the results into fruit first expressions of the varieties they chose. That blend changes vintage by vintage, depending on what performs well that year. This year's wine is fruit forward with ripe red berries, rich plum and smoky spice. It's top for versatility too – great as a glass on its own, tasty with roasted vegetable quiche, sausage and mash. And just the ticket at a barbecue.

This well priced southern Rhône red is packed with herby black fruit and spice character. If it hailed from any of its neighbouring regions, it would cost a pretty penny. But from the often overlooked Vaucluse, it delivers great flavour and value.
Welcome to the Vaucluse, a southern Rhône wine region, just on the edge of Provence. Its extensive vineyards nurture an array of native grapes like Grenache, Syrah, Marselan and Carignan, that make ripe, warming, fruit laden reds. The nearest neighbours are famous wine regions Rasteau, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Châteauneuf du Pape. It’s lucky enough, too, to share the same climate and have similar soils. In the case of Willem the Silent and Châteauneuf, it shares an award winning winemaker as well. Thierry Ferlay has won scores of Gold medals for many of his wines – from vins de pays to Châteauneuf. Enjoy the herb and liquorice scented fruit of his latest offering with sausage and mash or shepherd's pie of the meat or veggie sort.

We’ve never come across a wine that delivers as much flavour and well-ripened black fruit with just 10% alcohol. A seamless combination of local grapes, all blackcurrant, plum and sweet spice.
A quintessential Portuguese red taste experience, brimful with bold bramble fruit that lingers on the palate. Barrel-aged and silky smooth. Number Ten is an exciting new addition from the Portuguese star, Jaime Quendera. He’s a third-generation winemaker, former winner of World’s Best Red and the man behind bestsellers like Rocksand Shiraz and Vinha do Fava. Admittedly it's not quite as hefty as these releases, but it more than delivers on dark fruit and spice. Plus, this new inky red has something else. Instead of weighing in at the usual 14% alcohol (or more), this purrs along at a modest 10%. There’s no dialling back on flavour whatsoever. Delicious proof that you can have the best of everything. Full fruit, lighter alcohol and value.

Marlborough is not the only place that does Sav Blanc so well! Not far away is Nelson, which boasts loads of sunshine, and truly dazzling wines – this one comes from the Seifried family, who've been growing grapes for over 30 years!
This stunning wine is named after the landmark Split Apple Rock in Abel Tasman National Park, where Hermann Seifried built a winery in 1973 with the help of his local church. He'd only arrived in New Zealand three years earlier from Austria, via Germany (where he studied winemaking) and South Africa. He married Kiwi lass Agnes Wilkins, and two years later they realised their shared dream of growing grapes. 1976 was their maiden vintage and more than 30 years on the Seifrieds are still going strong and racking up a host of awards. Gooseberry fresh Split Rock slips down a treat on its own and partners dishes such as spicy prawns, grilled chicken or creamy pasta.

Concours Mondial De Bruxelles
Domaine Reverdy’s fine 2020 epitomises the elegant, complex and minerally character that has made Sancerre an enduring benchmark style for centuries. Classic, flinty Sauvignon Blanc in a stellar vintage and from an impressive small family domaine.
The village of Sancerre in the central Loire has been Sauvignon Blanc’s spiritual home for centuries. Here, the cool climate and limestone hills bring out an intensity of aroma and raciness of flavour in the grape that is unmatched anywhere else. “Gun-flint – the smell of sparks when flint strikes metal – is one way to characterise it” says Hugh Johnson. Plus, he adds, “the smell and taste of fresh blackcurrants, leaves and all” (Wine Companion). The finest examples come typically from small, independent growers like Reverdy – this tiny, seven hectare estate has won a disproportionate number of awards in recent years. Cut grass, gooseberry and mineral character make this aromatic 2020 a great match for pan fried fish or goat's cheese salad.

Domaine Saint André is a Chardonnay full of bright, fresh flavour. Thanks to night harvesting, it has tropical fruit ripeness and appetising freshness, ensuring its appeal to lovers of both affordable white Burgundy and New World Chardonnay.
If you enjoy quality wine and appreciate value, southern France has a lot to offer. There is a myriad of appellations and producers to get to know. And fewer rules to follow, so winemakers can be creative. We have been wending our way around villages and vineyards there since the late 1960s so we know where to look and have many invaluable connections. Yannick Pons of Domaine Saint André has a beautiful estate, skirted by the Canal du Midi and the Roman road Via Domitia. It's not far from the famous Oppidum (hilltop town) d’Ensérune, which dates back some 3,000 years. This is prime Chardonnay country, producing lovely, pure, creamy peach fruit in this modern style white. It’s perfect on its own or with salads, fish dishes or roast chicken.

Starring Argentina’s most beloved grape, the mighty Malbec, this inky black red has extra oomph from a splash of Cabernet. The grapes are sourced from high-altitude slopes to ensure its dark velvety notes are balanced by a kick of juicy fruits.
Pure Argentinian magic lies in this inky black red – a wine for the meat-lovers among you. And non-carnivores too! It comes from an award-winning winery in San Juan, a lesser-known region in the north, making impressive wines. Crafted by a winemaker of 35 years' experience, Gino Santinon, this juicy red leads with Argentina’s star red grape, Malbec, with a dash of Cabernet. Gino uses grapes from high-altitude slopes, up to 764 metres altitude. At these lofty heights the grapes bathe in glorious sunlight but are kept cool at night. The result is brilliantly fresh fruit with perfect velvety-smooth ripeness that you can enjoy in the T-Bone. Packed with rich damson, plum and blueberry flavours, it'll make you want to slap a steak on the barbie.

Our customers cannot get enough of this stylish Italian sparkling wine. The name Prosecco always raises a smile. This is a crisp Spumante from a leading Venetian winemaking family, the Botter’s.
Rated the UK’s fizz of choice, Prosecco is a drink for every occasion. Its fine, caressing bubbles evoke the stylish Italian piazzas of its homeland. This lively example is from the Botter family, a third-generation, leading Italian winemaking clan. Traditionally, Prosecco is made entirely from the Glera grape, but the Botter’s have added a rebellious dash of Chardonnay to round out the wine and lend riper, stone fruit flavours. These grapes were sustainably farmed from Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia - two regions famed for their white wines. It’s a Prosecco with a spring in its step that’s bound to raise a smile. Enjoy it as a light aperitif, or, with its body and fruit, it can be paired with seafood or lighter vegetarian dishes.

The dense, luscious Waxed Bat Reserve is from remarkable winemaker Opi Sadler. He takes Cabernet and Malbec from the best, highest vineyards and ages the wine in barrel. Waxed Bat’s hallmark velvet black fruit, taken a notch richer and deeper.
This is the Reserve edition of the much loved Waxed Bat. Ask winemaker Opi Sadler why the name and he’ll reminisce about visiting his grandfather as a young boy and exploring the dark cellars. There bats fluttering in the candlelight would both fascinate and terrify him in equal measure! In the Reserve, Opi takes the quality of his legendary Waxed Bat to new heights. Cassis scented Cabernet and spicy Malbec have been patiently barrel aged for a year to create a silky smooth, rounded wine that retains all the vibrant fruit intensity that makes regular Waxed Bat so popular, with gentle tannins and a long finish. It shows that Argentina’s Cabernet is on a par with its Malbec. Opi suggests serving with roast lamb, steak or spicy tomato pasta.
